Detroit man killed in ambush-style shooting at east side apartment complex

Gunman still on loose, police say

DETROIT – A man was killed Monday night in a coordinated attack at an apartment complex near Whitter Avenue and Beaconfield Street on Detroit's east side.

Police arrived at the scene and found shattered glass and bullet holes in the doors of the apartment building.

Investigators said two men were inside a room at the apartment complex when there was a knock on the door. One of the men answered and yelled out an expletive before bullets started flying.

The man in his 30s who answered the door is dead. His friend hid in the bathroom and was not injured.

Police are talking to the victim's friend and neighbors at the apartment building. Neighbors and patrol officers said they heard the shots being fired, but they didn't see who fired them.

The gunman is still on the loose.
