Detroit Mayor Dave Bing cancels community meeting

DETROIT – A shouting match and high emotions caused Detroit Mayor Dave Bing to cancel a community meeting Thursday night.

Mayor Bing and his staff tried to answer questions ranging from 12-hour police schedules to buses to Belle Isle, but most of the answers could not be heard above the heckling. The shouts came primarily from Detroit Police officers and their supporters.

"We are not going to continue this meeting if we continue to have outbursts," said Mayor Bing.

Finally the mayor and his staff walked out, which left hecklers outraged.

"I'm disgusted, Detroit makes me sick. Every time he has a meeting like this, they act a fool. Let the man talk, why can't he talk," said Detroit resident Bernice Smith.

The mayor later said that the mob-like antics do not reflect the cities quiet majority.
