Detroit party store offering reward to help capture gunman who stole $10,000

Surveillance cameras at Big V party store on Greenfield Road capture entire crime

DETROIT – A party store in Detroit is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest of the gunman who robbed the store Thursday in broad daylight.

Jovan Tuemi said his family's business -- Big V party store on Greenfield Road -- has been a staple in the community for years.

"This is the first time in 15 years that we've been at this business and there's never been a robbery or holdup. So, it was just a big shock," he said.

Two men entered the store just after 2 p.m. and forced Tuemi's brother at gunpoint to open the registers.

"They came in here and they said, 'Everybody get down on the floor.' My brother saw the gun initially and got on the floor, put his hands up," Tuemi said.

The store's surveillance cameras captured the whole thing.

Tuemi said the gunman got away with $10,000.

"As they were going out, they said, ‘It's that time of year. We're hungry on the streets,'" Tuemi added.

The crime isn't deterring the family business.

"The neighborhood is pretty scared, but we want to let them know, don't be scared. We're here for the neighborhood," Tuemi said.
