3 of 6 gang rape suspects in custody, third turned himself in

DETROIT – Detroit police said Monday two of six males wanted in connection to a gang rape are in custody. The third suspect turned himself in Monday evening.

The attack happened July 16 in the 10300 block of West McNichols Road. A 21-year-old woman was walking with a 22-year-old man when a group of six males approached them. The couple was forced to undress and then robbed at gunpoint in an alley. The woman was raped in front of her acquaintance. Less than two hours later another couple experienced the same horrifying ordeal nearby.

Police say the two suspects -- 18-year-old Edward-Ikie Orr and 17-year-old Jordan Alexander Reese -- were arrested July 23. Police say they have been arraigned on charges and are being held in jail on $250,000 cash bonds. Orr and Reese both face the following charges: 13 counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct; one count of kidnapping/unlawful imprisonment; two counts of armed robbery; assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder; and felony firearm.

Those charges are for the first incident on July 16. No charges have been issued in connection to the second incident that day.

Third suspect turns himself in

Detroit police released a photo of a third man who they called a suspect in this crime. He has been identified as 22-year-old Chico Lee Bruce.

Bruce turned himself into the Wayne County Jail Monday evening.

"It's a misunderstanding," said Bruce. "They got the wrong person."

Bruce turned himself in with his family present where they said goodbyes and prayed for his safe return.

Bruce said that he knows one of the suspects in these rapes and doesn't affiliate with him.

On Tuesday, he was charged with criminal sexual conduct, robbery and kidnapping. He is being held on a $1 million bond.

Three other males remain wanted in connection to this crime, too. However, police have not identified them.
