A security guard was shot and killed Friday morning in an attempted robbery outside an ophthalmology facility in Detroit.
Local 4 has learned that 66-year-old James Forth was sitting in a car outside the DMC-affiliated offices of Burman and Zuckerbrod on McNichols Road when the shooting happened.
Sources said Forth a gunman exchanged shots -- the security guard died but the gunman was also hit and drove himself to a hospital.
Forth, of Livonia, was a Vietnam veteran who had become a familiar fixture in the community. His family released a statement reading, in part: "Jim was a wonderful man, who was always interested in helping other people. He was a kind, thoughtful person and he'll be greatly missed."
"Sterling Security" is the name of the company on the side of the car the security guard was shot in.
