Detroit police continue search for car involved in deadly hit-and-run on Michigan Avenue

Bruce Key killed Tuesday night while crossing near Cicotte Stree

DETROIT – After an investigation, Detroit police said a red Chevrolet Cavalier found Thursday on the city’s east side is not connected to a deadly hit-and-run on Michigan Avenue.

Bruce Key was killed Tuesday night as he left a party store on Michigan Avenue near Cicotte Street.

Police said the driver who hit him drove for about two blocks with Key on the windshield before dumping his body in an alley.

At the time of the crash, police said they were looking for five people in a red car, possibly a Chevrolet Cavalier or a Dodge Charger.

Sgt. Michael Woody said investigators were called to look at the car, but determined it was not the right car.

Surveillance video shows Key inside the party store before the incident, and then leaving the party store.

Key's stepdaughter, Tracy Arnold, said she was watching news coverage of the hit-and-run when she noticed something.

“I saw the gym shoe in the street and I recognized the gym shoe,” she said.

Arnold said her mother called the party store to ask if Key was still there, and she was told over the phone that he had been hit.

"It's heartless," Arnold said.

Key leaves behind 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is asked to call Detroit police at 313-596-1462.
