Detroit police are pulling officers out of a west side neighborhood, where they had spent all day investigating a report that a schoolgirl was abducted.
No area schools or parents have reported a missing girl.
A 14-year-old boy told police that the girl was walking in the area of Plainview and Belton about 7:20 a.m. Tuesday. The witness said the girl, believed to be about 11 years old, was kicking and screaming as a man forced her into a Chevy Cavalier.
Investigators say the teen was credible and consistent, but they could not verify his report. The incident he witnessed may have been a domestic issue.
Police released composite sketches of the girl and the man who allegedly took her. They checked vacant buildings and interviewed people in the area who are on the sex offender registry.
Finally, at 6 p.m. police removed their mobile command unit.
They are leaving a tip line open. The number is 313-596-5600.
