Detroit police: Man broke into house, stabs 3 people

Victims suffer non-life-threatening injuries during attack Tuesday night on Monica Street

DETROIT – Detroit police say a 32-year-old man is in custody for allegedly breaking into a home on the city's west side and attacking a mother and her three children.

Police said the suspect broke through a front window of a home in the 12000 block of Monica Street Tuesday night and stabbed Leandra Bryant, 34, her 16-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter. Police said the suspect also kicked Bryant's 11-year-old pregnant daughter in the stomach.

The 16-year-old is in critical condition.

Police said the suspect was released in February from prison after being convicted of carjacking. He initially was staying with Bryant, but was told by children's services that he had to leave the home when an investigation into the 11-year-old's pregnancy got underway.
