Detroit police officer injured in altercation with gun-wielding man

Suspect was taken into custody

DETROIT – A Detroit police officer was injured Monday while arresting a man who was waving a gun around on the city's west side.

Authorities were patrolling Prest Street near Midland Street when they saw a man waving a gun. Officers asked the man to put the gun down, but he ran into a house.

An officer went into the house and tackled the man, but broke his own ankle during the altercation. The injured officer was taken to a local hospital by DPD.

The suspect was taken into custody and his weapon was recovered.
