Detroit police officer punched in face while trying to remove man from property

DETROIT – A Detroit police officer was punched in the face Thursday morning as he tried to remove a homeless man from a property.

The department said the officer responded around 8 a.m. to a 911 call about a man refusing to leave an area near Peterboro Street and Woodward Avenue.

When the officer tried to get the man to leave, the man punched the officer in his eye, the department said.

The man, who is in his 20s, was taken into custody.

The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment, but the department said his injuries were minor.
