Detroit police and FBI agents are searching for a man who called 911 Tuesday morning claiming he was kidnapped, stabbed and then left in a warehouse somewhere in the city.

Police Chief James Craig said the man, who called at least twice from a satellite cellphone, identified himself as a Russian citizen and spoke broken English.

Craig said the man described being able to see the Detroit River and power transformers, but was unable to move because he was injured.

Police have canvassed about 20 blocks, and checked dozens of buildings, near Jefferson Avenue and Chene Street.

Craig said the man told 911 he had been visiting the city when he was kidnapped by two men.

Tuesday evening, the search for the man was called off for the night.
