Detroit police: young woman's body found at vacant lot

Police say woman in her 20s or 30s found dead Tuesday night in 100 block of Louisiana Street

DETROITDetroit police say a woman's body was found about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday at a vacant lot in the 100 block of Louisiana Street just east of John R. Street.

Police say the body is of a woman in her 20s or 30s. It's so badly decomposed that she is unrecognizable. It's likely the body has been there for weeks, police said.

Local 4 has learned the woman was first found by Detroit Department of Public Works workers who were collecting tires in the area. The body was found among the frozen brush, tires and other garbage.

Investigators, with only a few flashlights, spent hours in the pitch black searching for any signs of evidence.

Homes once stood in the desolate area which now is best known as a dumping ground.

The Wayne County medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
