Detroit reacts to Obama's immigration speech

DETROIT – President Barack Obama's executive action speech on immigration was given a huge round of applause from folks in southwest Detroit.

"What the president has said is very overwhelming," said Jorge Garcia, who could be deported any day.

Garcia wakes up every morning fearing that this could be the day he's forced to leave.

"It's stressful knowing that any time they can come and pick me up," he said.

"I'm concerned for people in our situation because (my husband isn't) here and I can't help but to be concerned we might get lost," said Margaret Gonzales, whose husband was deported.

That's why Obama's plan on immigration reform means so much to them. It gives protection for 5 million undocumented immigrants from deportation, giving the Garcias a glimpse of hope.

"These people don't have to live in the shadows," said Raquel Garcia Anderson, with Michigan United. "They can go get a driver's license, so when a police officer pulls you over you have some type of ID.
