DETROIT – The Detroit City Council next Tuesday will hold a special session to try to work out funding for the city's cash-strapped Riverfront Conservancy.
The nonprofit conservancy group was started in 2003 to help develop and beautify the five and a half miles of Detroit's riverfront that stretches from the Ambassador Bridge to just east of Belle Isle.
The conservancy is asking for council's help in retaining a $300,000 federal grant. The group needs to get legal control over parts of the riverfront from the city in order for the money to be handed over.
Riverfront Conservancy President Faye Nelson said council would be looking at three different ordinances that would help the group.
