He faced premeditated murder, home invasion and criminal sexual conduct charges for allegedly breaking into a 17-year-old victim's home Jan. 7 on Radnor Street and attacking her. She later died from her injuries.

He was ordered to stand trial in March.

The 17-year-old's mother, Shelly Washington, testified about finding her daughter unconscious in her bed.

“I seen blood just everywhere," Washington said. “I’m like, ‘Baby, what hit you?’”

Washington said her daughter never verbally responded, or opened her eyes, even though she was breathing and had a pulse.

Her daughter was rushed to St. John Hospital. She died several days later.

One of the alleged victim's testified Monday. The verdict came less than an hour after the jury began deliberating. Winfield will be sentenced June 28. He could face life in prison.

Additionally, Winfield is accused in two other assault cases, one involving a 39-year-old woman in a different home on Radnor Street in December and one in Grosse Pointe Park. In the other Radnor Street case, he's charged with assault with intent to murder, first-degree home invasion and assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.

Judge Catherine Heise will hear these two cases, too.

Grosse Pointe Park attack

In the Grosse Pointe Park attack, Winfield is accused of using a sharp object to cut a 48-year-old woman on her face and chest as she walked  Dec. 12 on Cadieux Road near Charlevoix Street. The woman said she was cut three times on her chest, was cut on her wrist, face and suffered bruises on her arm. She gave emotional testimony back on Feb. 1 about the night of the attack. Winfield is charged with assault with intent to murder in her case.

He has been held in jail on a $1 million bond.
