Detroit wants input on farm animals proposal

City considering Urban Livestock Ordinance

DETROIT – Whether or not people living in Detroit can have farm animals on their property will be up for debate Wednesday.

The City Planning Commission is considering a new ordinance that would legalize certain farm animals (likes goats and chickens) and honeybees.

Today's "Listen and Learn" session will give residents the opportunity to voice their opinions on the matter.

The meeting will be held at Greater Grace Temples on Seven Mile on the city's west side at 6 p.m.. This is the second of two planned meetings.

The proposal comes after a couple had their animals taken away due to the city's ordinance banning the animals. A goat farm in the Brightmoor neighborhood was also shut down last year.
