Detroit Water and Sewerage Department suspends shutoffs as payment system goes down

Department's payment system experiences intermittent outages

DETROIT – The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department has temporarily suspended shutoffs Thursday because the department's payment system is currently experiencing intermittent outages.

According to DWSD, names of customers and residents who attempted to make payments Thursday were recorded and they will be not face shutoffs for non-payments.

Customers attempting to make payments Friday will receive a card that the department says will prevent a shutoffs.

All delinquent customers who have attempted to make payments will have to make payments within 10-15 days to permanently prevent a shutoff.

The DWSD says they are working to restore service to the payment system but currently they have no timeline for when it can begin accepting payments again.
