DETROIT -

On a steamy Tuesday night in a rundown part of Detroit, skateboarders were showing off their skills.

The skaters are part of a movement breathing new life into the city. The X Games Detroit team, with the financial backing of Dan Gilbert, has set their sights on Detroit playing host to the games in 2014.

The event could bring a 1/2 million athletes, fans and media members to the city and, more importantly, it could help reinforce Detroit's growing "cool" factor.

Kevin Krease and Garrett Koehler have led the bid to bring the games to Detroit. They talked about it on Local 4's Flashpoint.

"The X Games is an event that really fits for Detroit, perfectly, right now. We can just be ourselves. We can expose all of our friends that are working on creative things and plug them into an incredible international event," said Krease.

It's now down to four cities: Detroit, Chicago, Charlotte, N.C. and Austin, Texas.

We will find out Wednesday morning if Detroit came out on top.
