The 12-story building will be renamed "The Plaza" and have 75 one, two and three-bedroom apartments and 2,000 square feet for stores.

An all-new glass facade will be built and restoration work will focus on exterior masonry and the grounds surrounding the building.

"This announcement regarding the renovation of this highly visible landmark property in Midtown is another signal that developers are recognizing the strong demand for quality housing in the Midtown neighborhood," said Susan Mosey, Midtown Detroit, Inc. president. "We are thrilled to partner again with the Roxbury Group on another great Midtown project."

The project will be handled by Quinn Evans Architects and Walbridge.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2016.

Financing is being provided by Capital Impact Partners and Invest Detroit.

The Roxbury Group most recently completed the historic redevelopment of the Iconic David Whitney Building, in Downtown Grand Circus Park.
