"The other day, I stopped calling. I just left it in the hands of the Lord," Hurvey said.

The 72-year-old has lived on the street for more than 40 years.

"Seeing this house like it was, I was really afraid to go to sleep because I thought it was going to damage my house. I couldn't get insurance fully on my house until this house is torn down," Hurvey said.

Crews have knocked down the house, but there are still several piles of debris that need to be cleaned up. Still, Hurvey said every little bit helps to make the neighborhood a better place.
