DETROIT – The wife of an ailing Detroit businessman is going to court to try to separate their assets.
Don Barden was known for trying to get one of the city's casino licenses 13 years ago with then-friend Michael Jackson.

The two weren't successful in Detroit, but Barden went on to own a dozen casinos from Las Vegas to Atlantic City. Since then, only one casino in Las Vegas remains -- the others have all gone into bankruptcy or foreclosure.
But recently, his wife Bella has filed for legal separation, saying in court documents that her 67-year-old husband is so sick with brain cancer that he cannot make his own business and financial decisions.
An attorney for Barden said his wife is engaging in legal action only because she feels the need to protect herself from poor decisions that might arise.
Local 4 has learned that Barden is living at a downtown Detroit hotel.
