ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. -

It's not everyday you see a house on wheels in St. Clair Shores, but this is the dream the Como family is making a reality for one mom.

"My wife couldn't even sleep last night," said Mario Como, who donated their house to Habitat for Humanity.

"I am not kidding you. I woke up this morning and said, 'This is better than Christmas,'" said Susan Como.

With the help of Habit for Humanity in Macomb, this couple turned their past into a local mom's future.

"This will be the first house my daughter and I will be in together. I can't believe it's happening," said Jamie Powell.

This is Habitat Macomb's first project in St. Clair shores.

The 1,000-square-foot home made its way across Jefferson Avenue and down Bon brae where the new homeowner was waiting.

"My 3-year-old and I have been living with my mom," said Powell. "This will give us a both a sense of independence."

Susan and Mario built their new dream home on Ardmore Street, where their old house once stood.

"We made so many great memories in that house and we are so happy we can give it to another family who will do the same," said Susan.

Habit Macomb hopes Jamie and her daughter will be able to move in by the end of summer, but she cannot officially call it her home until Habit raises enough donations to finish and make improvements to the house.

The project is locally run and not government funded.
