DETROIT - Parking spaces will be at a premium in downtown Detroit this weekend because of the World Series and other events going on at the same time.
On Saturday, the Detroit Tigers will host the San Francisco Giants in Game 3 of the 2012 World Series at Comerica Park. Game time is 8:07 p.m.
At about the same time, Bill Maher will be taking the stage at the Fox Theater across Woodward Avenue from Comerica Park and "Evil Dead: The Musical" will be getting underway at the adjacent City Theater.
Baseball fans are best advised to find parking spaces on the east side of Woodward Avenue, closer to Comerica Park. Theater-goers are more likely to find parking on the west side of Woodward, closer to the theaters.
World Series ticket holders can benefit from arriving early because the Comerica Park gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Saturday evening.
On Sunday, the Detroit Lions will host the Seattle Seahawks in a game at Ford Field starting at 1 p.m.
Ford Field gates open at 11 a.m. Nearby cash-only parking lots open at 10 a.m.
Football traffic might clear out before crowds begin arriving for Game 4 of the World Series Sunday night. That game will also start shortly after 8:00 p.m. with Comerica Park gates opening at 5:30 p.m.
If the Tigers beat the Giants Saturday and/or Sunday, Game 5 of the World Series will take place Monday night at Comerica Park, bringing a rush of traffic into downtown as the evening rush hour comes to an end.
