DPS students to work construction

Students to be paid $250 per week

DETROIT – Detroit Public School students will be donning their hard hats after being hired to work on several city construction sites.

The 32 students are part of the student worker program, which combines classroom instruction and on-site job experience.

The students will earn $250 per week. If they finish the nine week program, they'll receive a $900 bonus.

According to Detroit Public Schools, 241 students and graduates have been hired since the program began in 2010.

The program is in its final year of building, renovating, and completing demolition projects.
