Patients of Detroit-area cancer doctor accused of health care fraud scheme to meet

DETROIT – Former patients of a Detroit-area doctor accused of intentionally misdiagnosing cancer in a health care fraud scheme are planning to hold a support meeting this week.

Those who were patients of Dr. Farid Fata will be meeting between 7 and 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Concorde Inn on Star-Batt Drive in Rochester Hills.

Free coffee and water will be available in the banquet room. The hotel is right across the street from the Cancer Center.

Meanwhile, Fata is being held at the Wayne County Jail on a $9 million bond. His trial date has been set for Oct. 18.

The government says Fata ripped off Medicare for millions of dollars by giving chemotherapy to patients who didn't need it and diagnosing cancer when the illness wasn't apparent.
