Driver crashes stolen car into tree during police chase in Westland

Car reported stolen during home invasion

WESTLAND, Mich. – A driver crashed into a tree Tuesday in Westland while leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle.

Police said they tried to pull the vehicle over for a traffic violation, but the driver fled the scene.

A check of the license plate revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen on Tuesday during a home invasion in another city.

Police chased the driver until he crashed the vehicle into a tree while trying to exit the freeway into a rest stop near I-94 and Belleville Road.

The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. There were no other injuries in the chase or crash.

Police are continuing to investigate the case.
