Driver shot by cab passenger on freeway

DETROIT – Police say a man was injured Sunday morning in a road rage incident after a passenger in a cab shot into his car on Southfield Freeway.

The victim said that he and a passenger were traveling southbound on Southfield Freeway from I-96 at around 2:30 a.m. when a yellow Ford Crown Victoria "checkered" cab entered the freeway from Plymouth Road and passed them at a high speed.

The victim flashed his high beams at the cab as it went by, and the driver of the cab slowed down next to the victim's car. One of the rear passengers in the cab fired shots at the car and hit the driver in the leg.

Authorities say the victim drove himself to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Michigan State Police ask anyone who was on Southfield Freeway at around 2:30 a.m. and witnessed the accident to call the tip line at 877-616-4677 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
