Warren firefighter involved in deadly head-on collision in Sterling Heights

Police: Unclear if alcohol was factor

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – A 17-year-old driver was killed in a head-on collision in Sterling Heights Friday night.

The accident happened on Plumbrook Road near Plainview Drive around 8:45 p.m.

The initial investigation showed that a silver SUV was traveling westbound on Plumbrook Road at a high rate of speed and crossed into the eastbound lanes, striking a silver car head on.

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital.

The driver of the SUV is a 42-year-old Warren firefighter and has been with the department for 15 years. He is in critical condition.

The driver of the other vehicle was 17-year-old Diana Pozderca, also from Sterling Heights. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Those closest to Pozderca held a vigil Saturday night at the spot where she died, 3 miles from her home.

Pozderca had just started at Macomb Community College after graduating from Stevenson High School. The teen was a dancer and loved to run. She had finished a run at Dodge Park and was driving home when she was killed.

Pozderca also loved animals and recently started work at a vets clinic.

Sterling Heights police are investigating whether speed or alcohol was a factor in the crash.

A vigil was held Saturday night at the scene of the accident.

A GoFundMe account was created to help with Pozderca's funeral costs.
