DTE to take over Public Lighting Department services in Detroit
Detroit emergency manager notifies DTE Energy of wind-down of Public Lighting Department's services
Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr announced Thursday evening his office has notified DTE Energy that the city's Public Lighting Department is going to stop its services.
DTE will take over the utilities that the Public Lighting Department controls.
The wind-down of PLD's services is expected to take several months. It will happen in phases.
The city's electrical system has been operating with an annual average loss of $150 million over the past 5 years.
