Eastern Michigan University selects new police chief

YPSILANTI, Mich. - Eastern Michigan University has selected a new chief of police and executive director of public safety.

The Ypsilanti school said in a statement that Robert Heighes' appointment is effective Friday.

The Pinckney man has served as a police officer at Eastern Michigan University for 28 years, including three stints as interim executive director of public safety.

The appointment was announced Thursday.
