EASTPOINTE, Mich. -

Eastpointe police are investigating a dispute between neighbors Wednesday morning in the 17000 block of Lincoln Avenue which led to one of them being shot to death.

Police say two neighbors were involved in an argument which led to one of them shooting the other. It happened about 10 a.m.

"It was over money," said another neighbor, Michale Campos. "I heard commotion going on and a loud screaming about money and, 'You're gonna pay me,' and this and that, and the next thing you know I heard the shot. I grabbed the phone and called 911."

Eastpointe police arrived within minutes. They took a 48-year-old man into custody. Police say he used a .45 caliber handgun to shoot his 58-year-old neighbor in the driveway.

"My understanding was these gentlemen were good friends, so obviously something happened to change that this morning and we're investigating what that could have been," said Lt. Neil Childs, lead investigator on the case.

The man who was shot died at St. John's Hospital.

Richard Richardson also heard the killing. He was on the phone with the alleged shooter who put the phone down to argue.

"'Get outta my house! Get outta of my house!' And I heard (him) say, 'You got a cane?' I guess the guy came at him with a cane," said Richardson.
