Detroit Public Schools will be kicking off its first districtwide Pre-K Enrollment Extravaganza on Friday in order to encourage enrollment in Detroit's Pre-Kindergarten programs.
The Extravaganza will happen at 70 different sites throughout the city, each at a school site that houses Pre-K classrooms.
In addition, special enrollment events will happen Friday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Beard Early Learning Neighborhood Center at 840 Waterman, and Fleming Early Learning Neighborhood Center at 18501 Waltham. There will be activities like face painting, bounce houses, refreshments and other activities for families.
As part of a five-year plan called ''Neighborhood-Centered, Quality Schools," the new DPS Universal program will be adding 25 early learning classrooms to 14 separate sites across the city.
In additions, there will be 12 classrooms in five of the new DPS Early Learning Neighborhood Centers.
There will be 215 Pre-K classrooms at 70 schools with the capacity for 3,530 students.
Parents and students can expect to see more art and music programs this fall as well as better customer service to better serve the needs of DPS students and families.
Pre-K classes begin on September 16.
