Elderly couple dies in Novi house fire

Jeannette Hampton, 73, Lewis Hampton, 79, were asleep when fire broke out at mobile home in Novi Meadows

NOVI, Mich. – A fire in Novi claimed the lives of two people Thursday morning.

Jeannette Hampton, 73, and Lewis Hampton, 79, were found unconscious in their home.

Firefighters responded to the fire about 8:30 a.m. at the Novi Meadows mobile home community located on Napier Road and Grand River Avenue.

Crews put out the fire and then rescued the pair who inhaled much smoke.

The couple was later pronounced dead at Providence Park Hospital.

A woman who took care of the elderly couple says they lived in Novi for many years.

Lewis suffered from Alzheimer's.

The couple was asleep when the fire broke out.

The caregiver says the Hamptons both died within minutes apart at the hospital.
