DETROIT -

An elderly man fought back Tuesday when a group of men tried to steal his dog on Detroit's west side. He ended up sending one of the would-be robbers to the hospital.

The man was sitting on his porch on Cascade Street near Joy Road when three men approached. They asked about his dog and left.

When the men returned with guns, announced a robbery and said they wanted the man's dog, the elderly man grabbed his own gun. He started shooting, hitting one of the men.

That man is in serious condition.

There is now word on any arrests or charges.
