DETROIT – A legacy of the late boxing icon Emanuel Steward is now shut down.
The Kronk Gym Steward operated on West Warren Avenue in Detroit is closed and all of its equipment has been removed.

The 68-year-old Steward, who trained boxing champions Tommy Hearns, Hilmer Kenty, Oscar De La Hoya and others died last week.
Steward made his mark training boxers in the Kronk Gym in a community center in Detroit. The original gym was closed and Steward eventually moved his training facility to a building on West Warren.
But days after Steward's death, his relatives began removing signage and memorabilia from the gym, to safeguard his legacy.
Then, this week, the gym was cleaned out with all the training equipment taken and a "closed" sign was placed on the front door.
It is not known if the gym will reopen at another location.
Funeral services for Emanuel Steward are scheduled to take place on Nov. 13 at the Greater Grace Temple church in northwest Detroit.
