ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Orange barrels have taken over Washington Avenue in Royal Oak.
Last week, construction officially kicked off as crews begin to resurface Washington between Lincoln and 11 Mile, but the city doesn't want the barrels to scare you off.
In fact, they're hoping you embrace them and businesses caught in the middle of construction.
'Embrace the barrels' was born. It's a 10 week promotion starting June 9th through August 13th to keep you dining and shopping along Washington.
The DDA and the city hope a few pesky barrels don't keep you from getting a free chocolate bar At Gayles Chocolate or free earrings at the Accessories Shop.
They hope the businesses thrive while the road gets a makeover.
