EMU to host Michigan Collegiate Job Fair
Technology, engineering top list of available positions
College seniors and alumni from Michigan's two-or-four year colleges will have a valuable opportunity to talk with prospective employers at the bi-annual Michigan Collegiate Job Fair on Friday.
This popular event, sponsored by Eastern Michigan University and supported by the Michigan Career Educator and Employer Alliance, is scheduled Friday, Nov. 15, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Burton Manor, 27777 Schoolcraft Rd. at I-96 in Livonia.
Prospective employees are encouraged to pre-register online before Nov. 13 for only $10. Walk-in registration is $15. An up-to date list of participating employers can be found at mcjf.org
The event is seeing a continued upswing in jobs, organizers say.
"The number of employers continues to rise, which shows that the job market is stronger, especially in the IT field," said Ebony Jones, senior corporate relations manager at Eastern Michigan University. "It's a chance to match employers with the right talent."
Jones notes that the greatest number of job openings at the fair will be in technology and engineering, followed by business. Other employers are looking to interview graduates in allied health, human services and the liberal arts.
"This is an excellent opportunity for graduating college seniors and recent alumni in Michigan to network with more than 125 employers from various industries with active job openings," Jones said.
Jones recommends candidates should dress appropriately, bring approximately 25 copies of their resume, and be prepared to discuss their skills.
She said that one new feature is the prep rooms.
"Candidates can get their resumes reviewed and learn how to approach employers," Jones said.
There also will be a booth on how to use Linkedin for networking.
New employers currently registered for the fair include: Ohio Business Machines, Semyung USA, Spiders Software Solutions LLC, Transportation Research Center, Unishippers Global Logistics LLC, and The University of Michigan Health System - Medical Center IT.
Other participants are eight State of Michigan agencies, four U.S. government agencies, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Masco Cabinetry, ProMedica Health System, Quicken Loans, Target, and Total Quality Logistics.
The Michigan Collegiate Job Fair is one of the largest and longest running job fair events in the state. More than 700 job candidates are expected to attend.
