Moving her daughter in comes with a few tears for the mother of a freshman at Eastern Michigan who plans to major in occupational therapy.
"Probably cry but I will still be excited for her," said parent Maryanne Chevraux.
Fred Martinez has all the essentials for his dorm room.
"I brought a microwave and a mini fridge and clothes of course," he said.
The university is welcoming its largest freshmen class ever; 2,877 freshmen students.
The previous all-time record of 2,854 freshmen was set in 1999.
University President Dr. Susan Martin welcomed students to campus, "This is a fantastic day for Eastern. So many of our faculty and staff to get the word out that this is the place to be to get a great college education," she said.
Samiiya Amica comes to Eastern from Detroit. She has a full-ride scholarship and has dreams of becoming a pediatrician.
"I'm glad to be my own. I am kind of nervous at the same time but I know my mom prepared me enough. I'm really excited to start my career and have new experiences," she said.
Students will have a few days to adjust to living on campus before classes start.
