DETROIT – Jeffrey Beasley, who is a college fraternity brother of former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and the former city treasurer, has been convicted in a federal bribery and kickback scheme involving city pension funds.

Also convicted in the scheme are former pension fund lawyer Ron Zajac and former pension trustee Paul Stewart.
"It was difficult. I really thought we had impressed upon the jury that the government hadn't met their burden of proof. After all, Mr. Zajac had not accepted any cash other than his paycheck," said David Jones, attorney for Zajac.
The convictions could bring prison sentences of up to 20 years.
