Diane Harris was fired from her job at the Greektown Casino after working there for 10 years.
The 48-year-old woman was passed over twice for a manager's position. She felt it was because of her age and race that she didn't get the job and filed a discrimination claim in January 2011.
"And February 8th, 2011 I was terminated," said Harris. "They didn't give me (a reason)."
An at-will employee may be fired without a reason, but every employee has certain protections.
"An employer cannot retaliate against an employee for filing a civil rights complaint, and that's exactly what Greektown Casino did in this case," said Raymond Guzall, Harris' attorney.
Local 4 contacted Greektown Casino on Tuesday afternoon but no one has responded to requests for comment.
A Wayne County Circuit Court jury awarded Harris $600,000. She says her satisfaction is not about the money.
"The money is nice, however to get the word out on how Greektown operates is what's more pleasing for me than anything," she said.
