Attorney General Says King Owes $17K In Past Due Child Support

DETROIT – Former University of Michigan basketball star Jimmy King has been released from jail after being arrested Wednesday at a basketball camp.

The Michigan Attorney General's Office told Local 4 former King was arrested because he was past due on $17,000 in child support.

His past due bill is for one child over three years, the office said. King is charged with one count of failing to pay child support, which is a felony punishable by up to four years in prison.

His next court hearing is Sept. 16.

"In Michigan, when it comes to child support, everybody has to play by the rules," Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said.

King had been lodged in the Oakland County Jail, where his former Fab 5 teammate, Jalen Rose, was also jailed.

Rose was sentenced to 20 days in jail after being convicted of an operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated charge. Rose began his sentence earlier this month at the Oakland County Jail.
