Family turns to community after 3-year-old dies at Dearborn Heights Head Start school

Lilliana Kerr died after a piece of gym equipment fell, striking her head

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – A family in Dearborn Heights is trying to cope after the loss of a 3-year-old girl who died after a piece of gym equipment fell on her head.

Dearborn Heights police said children were at recess at the Dearborn Heights Head Start school around 11 a.m. Friday when a table-type piece of equipment in the gymnasium collapsed and fell on 3-year-old Lilliana Kerr.

School officials tried to help the girl before she was taken to Oakwood Beaumont Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The family has started a GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses.
