Family searches for hit-and-run driver that killed 16-year-old

DETROIT – A devastating crash killed Michael Yost, Jr. just a few weeks after his 16th birthday.

Yost's step-dad, Marlon Franklin, has strong words for the driver who slammed into her son and stepson as they were on their way to school.

"I don't have no forgiveness you is a coward if you can't stand up like a man and be accountable for your own actions," Franklin said. "Real men do that."

The driver responsible fled the scene after the crash.

"Some erratic driver came driving in all the lanes and he just plowed into the side of the car with my son and Lord have mercy … tore the whole door off the car and killed my son!," Franklin said. "He jumped out the car and I jumped out the car and chased after him but he ran behind a building and got away from me and I was so scared not knowing what to do, I ran back to the car to see about my son and just cry for help. Ask everyone that was there to call 911 and to save my son!"

Yost was a junior at the Jalen Rose Academy and a member of the school's soccer team.

His teammates surrounded his mother in a show of support for their fallen teammate and his family during a moment of silenced before Wednesday night's playoff game.

Franklin has a message of justice for the hit-and-run driver still at-large: "I was raising Michael to be a man and a man stands up for what he does. You committed a crime and killed my son. Now you need to stand up like a man and turn yourself in."
