DETROIT – The family of Lamond Ford gathered Friday to share stories of his life and what life has been like without him.
The family is asking for help finding the person responsible for killing the father of two.
"It is wrong that this person did this to my son," said Stephen Anderson, Ford's father.
Ford, 31, was found dead on the morning of Aug. 3 in a vacant field in the 7700 block of Longacre Street and Diversey Avenue near the Southfield Freeway on Detroit's west side. He had been beaten and shot during a robbery.
"They're not really sure where the crime really took place. Blood was found in the basement of the house that he was remodeling. His body was found across the street and down the street from where he lived," said his mother Marcia Ford.
Since that day, Ford's two sons, Kareem and Kaiheem, ages 5 and 4, have been asking why their father is no longer here. They are becoming more like their father each day.
"Lamond could see something and hear something, and he would pick it up that quick. Both his sons have that good quality, and it's just sad that Lamond is not here to see that," said Marcia Ford.
Ford's family says the 31-year-old had a lot of life left to live.
"Why? Why was that necessary? Why would someone take the life of a young person?" said Ford's grandmother, Nancy Bonds-Ford.
A $2,500 reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest.
