Fan Hit By Foul Ball At Cubs-Braves Game

A Woman Is Carried Out On A Stretcher After Being Hit By A Foul Ball

CHICAGO – A woman was hit by a foul ball Sunday night at Wrigley Field in Chicago, making this the second fan to be injured during an MLB game over the weekend.

The injuries in Detroit and Chicago are prompting a number of players to ask the league to strengthen safety standards at the ball park.

In Chicago, the woman was seated at the first-base line, when a foul ball from the bat of Kyle Schwarber struck her in the face. The game was delayed as help quickly took the woman out of the ball park on a stretcher.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon says that fans should pay more attention when attending games.

"Those are wonderful seats, probably paying a lot of money for them. I see people turning their back to the action. You can't do it," says Maddon. "It's awful. Pay attention."

Another female fan was injured last week during a Detroit Tigers game at Comerica Park. Play was also delayed after the woman was hit in the face by a foul ball during the bottom of the eighth inning.

Tigers pitcher, Justin Verlander disagrees with Maddon. Verlander took to twitter to voice his stance on the injuries.

"More protective measures need to be put in place in all ball parks," says Verlander. "Players are sick of seeing injuries that could easily be avoided."

In another one of Verlander tweets, he uses the hashtag, #dontwaittoolate, which now has fans showing their support for protective netting saying, "Players want it. Why won't the owners make it happen? #dontwaittoolate."

Schwarber also took to twitter after Sunday's game about the incident.

"Thoughts and prayers go out to the woman who was struck by the baseball today."

There is no word yet on if the league is making plans to address concerns express by players and fans.
