Farmington Hills turns to goats for help

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The city of Farmington Hills has a vegetation problem on some of its properties, specifically some detention ponds. Instead of going for a controlled burn or big time chemicals, they're not just going green, they're going goat.

Pilot is a 4-month-old pygmy goat who is the latest staff member working for the city. He was rescued by Oakland County Animal Control and was looking for a home. Coincidentally, Farmington Hills was looking for a goat, so the little goat found a new home.

Pilot will be eating his way through vegetation in the spring, summer and fall and then off to a neighboring farm to spend the winters, as well as any inclement weather days, plus weekends.

Using goats has worked well in other cities and if Pilot is a success here, he may be joined by other goats in the coming months.
