Father of 4 shot, killed in Inkster; victim's cousin in custody

Joseph Franklin gunned down outside Stardust Lounge

INKSTER, Mich. – Joseph Franklin was shot and killed this weekend at the Stardust Lounge in Inkster.

His own cousin, Rashard Bell, is being held by police. He allegedly shot Franklin after an altercation at the lounge. Police said Franklin left the venue with his mother and Bell suddenly appeared with a gun and shot Franklin once.

Bell recently connected with the family after spending 8 years in prison.

"As a family, you rewind and you just wish it didn't happen," said Daishwan Franklin, the victim's cousin.

Joseph Franklin's mother stayed by her son in the cold parking lot.

"To have your son lay in your arms and pass, right in your arms, but still have the love and compassion ... it just takes a remarkable person," said Daishwan Franklin.

Bell was taken into custody Sunday.
