Investigators reportedly were looking for information involving eight different properties, ranging from commercial buildings to private homes.

The search warrants entitle investigators to all records, keys and computer data that involve those eight properties.

The department is busy with a considerable amount of money flowing through it for permitting, demolition and planning review.

The task force is is investigating how inspectors have done their job.

The head of the department resigned in May to take a job in the private sector.  No permanent replacement has been named.

The FBI did not comment on the investigation, except to confirm their agents were at the department Tuesday.
