MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller said the FBI's corruption probe in Macomb County has now zeroed in on the public works office.
The details of the investigation are unknown, but Miller said about 10 employees from her office have been subpoenaed to testify in front of a grand jury. They've handed over some documents for the investigation, as well.
The case centers around former commissioner Anthony Morocco and employee Dino Bucci.
"I'll tell you what, we're going to take care of business," Miller said. "I'm aware that a handful of employees at the public works department have been subpoenaed by the grand jury to come and testify."
Miller said the questions have been about Morocco and Bucci.
"Into regards of what the FBI is looking for, honestly I don't know," Miller said.
One of the FBI's focuses has been invoices from a specific vendor.
"The bottom, all of them say, give the check to Dino or give it to former administrative assistant Morocco," Miller said.
Miller said her office did an audit of their own, looking at millions of dollars of legal fees.
"We may have found that some of these fees or authorization was inappropriate, but didn't find anything illegal," Miller said.
Miller said she hasn't heard from her predecessor and doesn't know where he is. But she said she's looking forward to finding out the truth sooner rather than later.
"When I ran for office, my slogan was clean water and clean government, and that's what's happening here at the Macomb County Public Works, now," Miller said.
The office has been busy with the Sterling Heights lawsuit connected to the Fraser sinkhole, but now Miller said they're focused on fixing the sinkhole and avoiding another sewer collapse.
