Feds seize cash linked to Bobby Ferguson

Ferguson says money belongs to his mother

MILAN, Mich. – Local 4 Defenders have learned the FBI seized nearly three-quarters of a $1 million linked to Bobby Ferguson on the eve of his conviction of felony charges.

Ferguson was convicted in March, along with his friend, and former Detroit mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, of racketeering, extortion and other felony charges.

Ferguson is locked up in the federal prison in Milan, Michigan awaiting sentencing.

Throughout his appeal process, Ferguson has claimed he needed a court-appointed attorney because he cannot afford to pay for a lawyer.

The FBI's search for money tied to Ferguson led them to an account in Alabama, not far from Ferguson's mother's home.

An attorney for Ferguson said that money belongs to Ferguson's mother and she is now worried about her financial future.

Federal agents seized cash and equipment from Ferguson's contracting business in Detroit before his conviction, and the search for additional assets continues.
